Dear Ambassador Matev, My dear Kyril, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am sorry that I cannot be among you today, but my thoughts are with you on this momentous anniversary, as I distinctly recall the founding luncheon at the Basil ten long, determinative years ago, especially for Bulgaria.
It was with curiosity that I had accepted the invitation, paying particular attention to the goals of your Club. Looking back today I don’t believe that any member of the Bulgarian City Club could have imagined what lay ahead and the future notoriety of your Club. Some members became cabinet or deputy ministers, a Presidential adviser, bank directors and an array of other distinguished positions in a renovated Bulgaria. Let me add that their efforts contributed to my country joining the European Union. I am ever so proud of these achievements and would like to congratulate all of you this evening, and simultaneously convey my gratitude to our British friends for their support! Simeon Saxe-Coburg |
