Our Chance to Support Bulgarian Theatre in London
Dear BCC Members, Friends and Friends of Friends,

On Bulgaria's National Day we are writing to tell you and share our enthusiasm about a great Bulgarian cultural initiative in London.

We would like to kindly invite you to help with the community-funding of the production of Stanislav Stratiev’s Roman Bath for the first time ever on British stage at the famous Arcola Theatre in London!

The much-loved Bulgarian play Roman Bath has been performed over 10 consecutive seasons in Sofia to packed halls as well as throughout the Balkans and as far as the USA and India, but never on British soil. Now, award-winning playwright Justin Butcher brings to life this satirical masterpiece in fresh translation in English and adaptation, commissioned specifically for this production.

The organisers at Gologan Productions have encountered sudden financial difficulties, have had to scale down the "Bulgarian Season" at Arcola to just one play and hence this appeal for you to help in any way you can make this production become a reality. Gologan's website can be accessed here:

http://www.gologanproductions.co.uk/gologanproductions.html

The play is produced under the Patronage of HRH Prince Kyril of Bulgaria and with the generous support of Sir Tom Stoppard.

As a Bulgarian community in London we ALL together can really make a difference and help make this a success. The more funds the producers manage to attract, the higher quality cast they can attract. The better the cast, the better the performance and the higher the attendance. To borrow Tesco’s slogan, "Every little helps", and no amount is too small.

Donating is easy. For more details, please click here: http://www.gologanproductions.co.uk/donatepage.html

Important: When you make a donation through PayPal, please put a note in the "Add special instructions to the seller section, saying "BCC" so that we can keep a track of the total amount raised by us, our friends of friends, strangers and unrelated parties.

If you have spent £10 to see James Cameron’s little blue people, we hope that you will trust Sir Tom’s judgment and spend at least as much to support original art in the form of 20 performances by 22 actors and artists of the Roman Bath production.

Following on the success on the 5th Annual Bulgarian Film Festival in London when you helped sell out the performances, we are positive that together we will bring another cultural success to London.

We look forward to another great Bulgarian night on 29 April, 2010, at the Arcola Theatre!

Club Members Meet PM Borisov

pmbb.jpgOn Sunday, 7 February, the Bulgarian Embassy hosted a meeting of the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov with the Bulgarian community in London.

Many Bulgarian City Club Members attended the meeting and were able to talk to the Prime Minister and members of his delegation. They shared with him plans for various events and initiatives where the cooperation of the Bulgarian authorities will be helpful. These include business promotion and networking, cultural and other events, as well as initiatives to lobby for full working rights of Bulgarians in the UK.

Mr Borisov expressed the readiness of his administration to support and cooperate closely with the Club in realising such ideas and initiatives. We are looking forward to this common effort for the benefit of all Bulgarians in London and the UK.

Many Club Members were also able to meet the new Bulgarian representative at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Board of Directors, Ms Stefka Slavova, who joins the EBRD after many years as a World Bank economist. Ms Slavova will be a special guest at our next Monthly Gathering on 25 February. The gathering is organised jointly with the Bulgarian Society at the London School of Economics, where Ms Slavova completed her PhD in Economics. The details are: from 18.30, at the Knights Templar Pub (near the LSE), 95 Chancery Lane, WC2A 1DT.

Talking about promotion of Bulgarian causes in London, we are glad to note that the 5th Annual Bulgarian Film Festival in London, supported by our Club, enjoyed unprecedented success. Many thanks to all BCC Members and Friends for your continued support for the Bulgarian films and culture!
